The famous Bodo/Glimt stadium, with artificial grass, was filled to the last seat, and the fans enjoyed the excellent performance of their favorites, who defeated Lazio 2:0, and go to the second leg in Rome in seven days with a good lead. Both goals were scored by midfielder Saltnes, thus bringing his team a well-deserved victory because the home team had possession, dictated the pace and created many more chances than the Italian representative. Lazio must prepare much better for the second leg and try to build on this advantage in order to reach the semi-finals.
The most interesting, as we expected, was in France. Lyon took the lead in the 25th minute through Almada, only for Manchester United defender Lenny Djoro to equalize in the second half of injury time. As in the first half, the match was tied, and so it was in the second half of the game. The nets were silent from half-time until the 88th minute when Cirkze, assisted by Bruno Fernandes, gave the visitors the lead, but that lead did not last long as Cherki took advantage of the incredible stupidity of goalkeeper Onana and made it 2-2 in the 95th minute. Both teams will be trying to qualify for the second leg, in England, in a week's time.
The packed stands at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow did not help the home team to achieve triumph. Rangers were sent off in the 13th minute when home defender Proper received a direct red card. From that moment on, the visitors took the initiative, attacking all the time, keeping the ball at their feet, but they failed to score a goal, so the match ended with the most unpopular result. The decision on who will advance to the semi-finals will be made in Spain next week in the second leg.
We also saw the third draw in the first legs of the quarter-finals in London. Eintracht took the lead in the 6th minute through Ekitikka, but Poro equalized for the home team in the 26th minute with an assist from Maddison, and the final score was set. The home team did have a slight initiative and created a few more chances, but the score remained 1:1 until the end, so the second leg in Germany next week will decide who will advance to the semi-finals.
